BLACK LIVES MATTER SACRAMENTO
I partnered closely with the Sacramento Black Lives Matter chapter to support their mission to end police and state violence against Black communities. I created communications for actions and events that contributed to major policy changes, including the requirement for police officers to wear body cameras. My work helped elevate the names of Stephon Clark and other victims of police violence through social media, posters, outdoor media, merchandise, and other creative assets that supported a powerful movement driving real change.
A FOCUS ON HEALING AND RESILIENCE
By listening closely to chapter leadership, I created materials that centered not only on tragedy but also on Black resilience, opulence, and joy. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of Stephon Clark’s killing, the chapter requested artwork that celebrated his life and could be shared with the community. I also designed fundraising materials with an uplifting tone that reflected strength and resilience, including a photo book documenting the chapter’s work, a CD cover for a fundraising mixtape, and designs for shirts and other merchandise

DESIGN FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION
I designed promotional materials for concerts, open mics, poetry nights, and other community gatherings created to foster healing, support fundraising, and push for policy change. I also created materials honoring victims of police violence, ranging from social media graphics to a billboard displayed in Midtown Sacramento.

FREEDOM SCHOOL
I created marketing materials for the Sacramento Freedom School, an annual free event where local families come together to learn through a Black-centered curriculum. I also designed custom coloring sheets for the kids, featuring radical Black leaders from history.

HISTORIC OBSERVATIONS AND MARCHES
The chapter regularly commemorated historic moments, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and the 1967 Black Panthers march on the State Capitol, and I created the materials to promote those events.

CREATING A PRESENCE
I collaborated with chapter leadership to develop a clear and recognizable visual identity for the group. I established the logo, color palette, and foundational materials such as signs and banners for marches and actions, making the chapter instantly recognizable in the community. I also created materials to promote events, programs, and advocacy efforts, including public-facing resources like Know Your Rights giveaways.
